Air Canada to Resume Flights After Government Ends Strike

Air Canada will begin resuming operations on Sunday evening following government intervention to end a strike by more than 10,000 flight attendants. The Canada Industrial Relations Board directed the airline to restore services after Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu mandated binding arbitration to resolve contract disputes.

The Montreal-based carrier expects a gradual ramp-up over several days before normal operations resume. The strike, which began early Saturday, forced hundreds of flight cancellations and disrupted travel plans for thousands of passengers.

Pay negotiations between the union and Canada's largest airline collapsed prior to the walkout. Flight attendants for both Air Canada and its Rouge subsidiary were ordered to return to work by 2:00 p.m. Montreal time.
